Disco, Cowboy Boots & a Wedding Without the Rulebook

R&D | An Intimate Ceremony, an Unforgettable Party

Calgary, Alberta

After six years of being engaged, growing their family, and building a beautiful life together, R&D were finally ready to celebrate their marriage. There was just one little problem: planning a wedding felt completely overwhelming.

When we first began working together, their plans looked much like a traditional wedding, with a ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. But after a few conversations, we started to realize something. The wedding they were planning wasn't necessarily the wedding they wanted.

So, we threw out the rulebook.

Instead of building their celebration around tradition, we began planning something that felt unmistakably them. Something intimate and meaningful, followed by one seriously unforgettable party.

An Intimate Beginning

The day began on the front lawn of their own home, where approximately 50 of their closest family and friends gathered for a beautifully intimate ceremony. Surrounded by lush white florals, soft draping, and the people who had been part of their story over the years, R&D finally made it official.

One of our favourite details? Their two little ones were part of the celebration, making the day about the beautiful family they'd already built together.

Following the ceremony, the couple made their way to The Glencoe Club, just a short walk from their home, where the evening began with bubbles, delicious bites, and a more intimate gathering before the party really got started.

“Planned and executed by the absolute best!! 👏 👏 Charlotte, you and the Lottie team truly made the day so special. 🥰” - R (Bride)

A Little Disco, A Little Cowgirl, and a Whole Lot of Personality

Early in the design process, R came to us with an idea involving tinsel. Then we started talking about balloons. And before long, we were dreaming up a ceiling installation that was unlike anything we'd done before.

Was it a little unconventional? Absolutely. Did everyone immediately understand the vision? Not quite. But after plenty of conversations, design mockups, and a few heart-to-hearts, we decided to trust the creative process and go all in.

The result was a dramatic installation of metallic balloons and shimmering tinsel that completely transformed the reception space. Paired with sparkling linens, western-inspired details, a live band, and an open bar, the room was ready for one incredible night.

Rather than revealing everything at once, we designed the evening to unfold in stages. Guests enjoyed the first portion of the reception before being welcomed into the transformed party space.

What began as an overwhelming attempt to plan a traditional wedding became a celebration filled with personality, unexpected details, and the freedom to do things differently.

R + D reminded us that the most memorable weddings aren't necessarily the ones that follow every tradition. They're the ones that reflect the people at the centre of them.

There is no rulebook when you’re ensuring your wedding reflects you.
